The Book Club book

Mansfield Park is a fascinating, complex work telling the story of Fanny Price, the poor relation in the home of her wealthy plantation-owning uncle. Fanny's world is thrown into disarray with the arrival of attractive outsiders from London, which results in  dangerous desires. Mansfield Park is perhaps Jane Austen's most interesting and thought-provoking work; a depiction of change and continuity, of scandal and the meaning of integrity.

Geoff says:

"Jane Austen's novels are always worth reading or re-reading because they are so beautifully written. Mansfield Park is very interesting, not only because of the slave-owing background of the family, but also because in Fanny Price we have a heroine who is quite unlike other Austen heroines.  Fanny's early upbringing gives her the experience and perspective that she needs to cope with what happens at Mansfield Park.  We read the original text, which is a standard length novel (approx 105,000 words).
